Following the text below are some questions that students might answer after reading the text. After reading the text, work with a partner to decide the question-answer relationship for each question, and then tell why it fits that category. Airplanes are such a common form of travel that it's easy to forget just how recently they were invented. Today, even a person in the middle of nowhere would not be surprised to see a plane in the sky. But before the Wright Brothers flew their plane at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903, most scientists thought flight by heavier-than-air machines would never be achieved. Never. In fact, the word airplane didn't come into common usage until after 1945. Now you give it a try. What type of question is this: 1. Where did the Wright Brothers fly their plane? Yes, this is a Right There question. 2. What was the attitude toward flying in 1945 to today? Correct, Think and Search 3. Why do you think most scientists thought flight by "heavier than air machines" would never be achieved? Yes, it is an Author and You question. 4. What are some inventions people today believe will never be achieved? Correct, On My Own. |
